Job summary

St. Joseph’s Health in Paterson, NJ, seeks an Infection Preventionist to assess daily surveillance documents, identify high-risk diagnoses, and coordinate isolation when needed. The role analyzes records to prevent Hospital Acquired Infections and reports outbreaks to local health authorities per protocol.

The position requires a Nursing degree with RN licensure in New Jersey; CIC certification is preferred and will be pursued as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent advanced degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • Experience as an Infection Control Practitioner is preferred; CIC certification is encouraged and recertified every 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assess daily surveillance documents and identify high-risk diagnoses or lab reports.
  • Examine medical records for evidence of Hospital Acquired Infection and coordinate isolation when indicated.
  • Enter demographics into CDRSS and report outbreaks to health authorities within designated timeframes.
  • Develop educational programs following policy, guidelines and accrediting requirements; collaborate with direct care providers to implement best practices and patient safety.

Qualifications

Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts normally acquired through completion of a licensed Bachelor's degree in Nursing, graduate of Public Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology with preferably two or more years of work related For Nurses, licensure required as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or able to acquire license within 60 days of hire. Experience for at least one year as an Infection Control Practitioner is preferred or at least attendance at an infection control course i.e. APIC training. Certifcation in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred but required after two years in the position, or obtained within 5 years of employment in the Re-certifcation every 5 years after initial certifcation is required as per CBIC (Certifcation Board of Infection Prevention and Control).
