Job summary

Children's Friend is hiring an Infant/Toddler Teacher Assistant in Central Falls, RI. The role supports the classroom teacher in creating a developmentally appropriate environment for birth to age three, implementing engaging curriculum, and partnering with families to ensure each child learns and thrives.

You will work with families and a multidisciplinary team, participate in conferences, and help maintain health and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • CDA credential preferred.
  • Experience with infants, toddlers, or young children preferred.
  • Ability to organize and plan activities and provide a variety of stimulating, developmentally appropriate experiences for children.
  • Ability to establish warm, responsive, and supportive relationships with children and families.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and electronic data entry.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and first aid practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when working with staff, families, and visitors.
  • Strong outreach and community engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to meet all required DCYF licensing and program standards.
  • Successful completion of required pre-employment background screening.
  • Ability to provide documentation demonstrating required medical clearance and immunizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the teacher in developing and implementing engaging curriculum.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing classroom environment meeting licensing standards.
  • Observe children daily and report health or development concerns.
  • Document children's development through progress notes and assessments.
  • Build warm relationships with children and families.
  • Collaborate with teachers and health professionals to support individual needs.
  • Participate in family/staff conferences and care coordination.
  • Engage in home-based services and family engagement activities.
  • Support positive classroom guidance and address challenges.
  • Attend agency meetings and professional development.
  • Complete 30 hours in the first year and 24 hours annually thereafter.
  • Promote inclusive environment and interact respectfully with diverse backgrounds.
  • Support outreach and community engagement efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Do you have a passion for working with young children and supporting families? Children's Friend is looking for a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Infant/Toddler Teacher Assistant to join our Head Start team.

In this rewarding role, you'll work alongside the Infant/Toddler Teacher to create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for children from birth to age three. You'll help implement engaging curriculum, support children's individual development, partner with families, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

What You'll Do:

As an Infant/Toddler Teacher Assistant, you will work closely with the classroom teacher and program staff to provide high-quality early education and care while supporting the individual needs of children and families.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist the teacher in developing and implementing engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum based on best practices
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment that meets DCYF licensing requirements and Early Head Start education performance standards
  • Observe children daily and report any health or developmental concerns that may require attention
  • Document children's emotional, physical, social, and intellectual development through progress notes, assessments, screenings, and electronic data systems
  • Build warm, supportive relationships with children and families
  • Collaborate with teachers, family development staff, and health, nutrition, mental health, and disabilities professionals to support each child’s individual needs
  • Participate in family/staff conferences and assist with preparation through ongoing communication and care coordination
  • Participate in home-based services and family engagement activities as required by program guidelines
  • Support positive classroom guidance strategies and work collaboratively with the teacher to address classroom challenges
  • Participate actively in agency meetings, program meetings, committees, supervision, and professional development opportunities
  • Complete required child-development training, including 30 hours during the first year and 24 hours of ongoing professional development annually
  • Promote an inclusive classroom environment and interact respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and community members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences
  • Support outreach and community engagement efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned
