Job summary

Children’s Friend is seeking an Infant/Toddler Teacher to join our Head Start team in Rhode Island. You will nurture and educate children birth to age three, partnering with families and a multidisciplinary staff to support growth and development.

Responsibilities include implementing Head Start-aligned curricula, observing progress, and maintaining records. A Bachelor’s in Infant/Toddler development and RIDE certification are preferred; CPR/First Aid and DCYF screening compliance required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Infant/Toddler development.
• RIDE Certification preferred.
• Experience with birth–3 years or strong interest in this age group.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
• Meet DCYF licensing requirements and background screening.

• Implement engaging curriculum aligned with Head Start standards.
• Foster social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
• Observe and document children’s progress and maintain developmental records.
• Partner with families through regular communication, conferences, and home visits.
• Collaborate with health, nutrition, mental health, and family support staff.
• Mentor colleagues and participate in professional development.

What You'll Do:

As an Infant/Toddler Teacher, you will create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where young children can explore, grow, and thrive.

Key responsibilities include:

Implement engaging curriculum aligned with Head Start performance standards and DCYF licensing requirements

Foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development

Observe and document children’s progress and maintain accurate developmental records

Partner closely with families through regular communication, conferences, and home visits

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including health, nutrition, mental health, and family support staff

Maintain a welcoming classroom that supports diversity, inclusion, and positive relationships

Work alongside a Teacher Assistant to create a supportive and enriching classroom environment

Participate in professional development and ongoing training to continuously strengthen teaching practice

Serve as a mentor and role model for colleagues and new teachers

What You Bring:

Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Infant/Toddler development preferred

RIDE Certification preferred

Experience working with children birth–3 years old, or strong interest in this age group

Ability to create warm, supportive relationships with children and families

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Basic computer skills for documentation and communication

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between sites as needed

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)

Ability to meet DCYF licensing requirements and background screening
