Job summary

Children’s Friend in Providence, RI is hiring an Infant/Toddler Teacher to join the Head Start team. You will nurture children from birth to age three, partnering with families and a multidisciplinary staff to support each child’s growth.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Infant/Toddler development preferred
  • RIDE certification preferred
  • Experience with birth–3 years or strong interest in this age group
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Meet DCYF licensing requirements and background screening

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment for infants and toddlers
  • Implement curriculum aligned with Head Start standards and licensing requirements
  • Foster social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Observe and document children’s progress and maintain developmental records
  • Communicate with families through conferences and home visits
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including health, nutrition, mental health, and family support staff
  • Maintain a welcoming classroom that supports diversity, inclusion and positive relationships
  • Work with Teacher Assistant to create a supportive classroom environment
  • Engage in professional development and training to strengthen teaching practice
  • Mentor and role model for colleagues and new teachers

What You'll Do:

As an Infant/Toddler Teacher, you will create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment where young children can explore, grow, and thrive.

Key responsibilities include:

Implement engaging curriculum aligned with Head Start performance standards and DCYF licensing requirements

Foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development

Observe and document children’s progress and maintain accurate developmental records

Partner closely with families through regular communication, conferences, and home visits

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including health, nutrition, mental health, and family support staff

Maintain a welcoming classroom that supports diversity, inclusion, and positive relationships

Work alongside a Teacher Assistant to create a supportive and enriching classroom environment

Participate in professional development and ongoing training to continuously strengthen teaching practice

Serve as a mentor and role model for colleagues and new teachers

What You Bring:

Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Infant/Toddler development preferred

RIDE Certification preferred

Experience working with children birth–3 years old, or strong interest in this age group

Ability to create warm, supportive relationships with children and families

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Basic computer skills for documentation and communication

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between sites as needed

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)

Ability to meet DCYF licensing requirements and background screening
