Job summary

Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County is seeking an Associate Teacher for our Early Childhood Education team. This role focuses on providing care and education for children aged 0-5 and supporting licensed teachers with developmentally appropriate activities.

Ideal candidates hold 12 semester units in ECE/CD (or CDA/CTC), have at least 6 months of related experience, and must obtain a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher by start date (or apply within 60 days).

Qualifications

• Requires 12 semester units in ECE/CD with a grade C or better or CDA credential.
• Must have 6 months related experience with children ages 0-5.
• Infant/Toddler classroom requires 3 units in Infant/Toddler courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide care and education for children ages 0-5, ensuring a positive and engaging learning experience.
• Collaborate with the Center Supervisor and Teachers to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
• Assist in covering Teacher duties in their absence and support instructional assistants, parents, and volunteers.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for all children.
• Assist in planning and executing educational activities that promote child development.
• Participate in physical activities with children, including games, music, and outdoor play.
• Assist with bus supervision, ensuring safety during transportation.
• Complete pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within the first 30 days of hire and 16 hours of training on preventative health practices and nutrition within 30 days.

What We're Looking For In The Ideal Candidate

• Has 12 semester units ECE/CD, with a grade C or better, or CDA Credential or CTC. Units must consist of the following core classes:
  • Child Growth & Development
  • Child, Family & Community, or Child & Family Relations
  • ECE/CD Programs/Curriculum courses
  • For positions in our Infant/Toddler classroom, candidates must have 3 units of Infant/Toddler courses.
• Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher at the time of hire; candidates who do not possess the permit must qualify for and submit an application for the permit within 60 days of their start date.
• Has 6 months related experience with children ages 0-5 years of age.
• Depending on the department assigned, a valid California driver’s license, a current DMV driving record, and proof of insurance may be required to fulfill job-related travel. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.

As An Associate Teacher You Will

• Provide care and education for children ages 0-5, ensuring a positive and engaging learning experience.

• Assume the responsibilities of a Teacher in their absence, guiding and supporting instructional assistants, parents, and volunteers.

• Assist with bus supervision, ensuring the safety and engagement of children during transportation.
• Complete pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within the first 30 days of hire.
• Complete 16 hours of training on preventative health practices and nutrition, as required by Health & Safety Code within the first 30 days of hire.
