Job summary

UNC Medical Center, in Chapel Hill, seeks a Human Milk and Formula Technician to prepare infant feedings for the Children’s Hospital. You will transform orders from EPIC into recipes, prepare feeds, and dispense products to units while maintaining strict safety and storage protocols.

This role requires an Associate’s degree in Nutrition or related field, accurate math skills, and the ability to work closely with clinicians and nurses in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Basic math, gram-scale weighing, and precise measurement of human milk and formula.
  • Strong manual dexterity for handling milk, bottles, and fortifiers.
  • Ability to learn fast in a clinical setting and apply concepts accurately.
  • Professional communication with nursing, dietitians, and providers.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and make decisions per hospital policy.

Responsibilities

  • Translate feeding orders from EPIC into recipes and verify with nursing and dietitians.
  • Adjust recipe volumes and fortifier grams using calculations.
  • Fortify human milk and formula with precision while following safety procedures.
  • Document orders, prep steps, and inventory in the patient record and flowsheet.
  • Monitor storage temperatures and expiration dates to ensure product safety.
  • Collaborate with nursing, lactation services, and dietitians across admission, transfer, and discharge.
