Job summary

Ingram Marine Group is seeking both entry-level and experienced deckhands to join our operations on America’s inland waterways. You may be assigned to various river segments or vessel types based on company needs, and you must arrange your own transportation to and from hitches.

A TWIC card is required before orientation, and you will participate in safety drills and vessel operations while supporting deck crews and engineers as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to uphold Ingram's high safety standards.
• Ability to work away from home for extended periods (14, 21 or 28 day hitches).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to respond quickly in an unexpected circumstance.
• Demonstration of critical thinking and decision making skills.
• Strong communication within all levels of the organization.
• Ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity.
• Must be able to read and write the English language to comply with USCG requirements.
• Must obtain a valid TWIC card (not a renewal receipt).
• Pass a post-offer process (background check, drug screen, physical).
• Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet.
• Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole.
• Be able to climb a ladder and board a skiff.
• Drivers License Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges).
• Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters).
• Assisting with locking.
• Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines.
• Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow.
• Checking barges for water and leaks - sometimes requires entering confined spaces.
• Upkeep of vessel appearance includes washing, chipping and painting.
• Assisting the Engineer as requested.
• Practicing safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems.
• Participating in safety drills and audits.
• Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.
