Job description

Doral, FL (Miami) — on‑site, with travel

Position Summary

The Generator Sales Engineer serves as the technical bridge between sales team, dealer/OEM channel partners, and customers. This role owns the technical scoping and pricing of quotes and formal bids, configures standard and custom generator set and trailer‑mounted (mobile) power packages, and provides field‑level diagnostic and troubleshooting support to help close and support sales. The ideal candidate combines solid generator/power systems knowledge with the communication skills to translate technical specifications into clear customer‑facing proposals.

Key Responsibilities

Quoting & Bid Support

  • Review customer and dealer bid documents/specifications and interpret them against Triton Power's standard product line to identify fit, gaps, and required exceptions.
  • Prepare accurate, competitive quotes and formal bid packages for dealers, OEMs, and direct customers, including government/IDIQ‑style solicitations as needed.
  • Translate customer load requirements and site conditions into correct generator set configurations using the Build‑a‑Generator (BaG) tool and standard spec sheets.
  • Flag and document any deviations between a bid's requested specifications and Triton's standard offering for engineering/management review.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing on lead times, options, and non‑standard configurations quoted to customers.
  • Track bid submissions, follow up on outstanding proposals, and maintain a bid pipeline/log.

Fuel Tank & Trailer Advisory

  • Act as the technical advisor for correctly sizing fuel tanks and trailers to match a given generator set's kW rating and runtime requirements.
  • Sell fuel tanks and trailer packages alongside the generator as part of the overall quote, recommending the right fit rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all option.
  • Answer dealer and customer questions on tank and trailer options in plain terms as part of the sales conversation.

Technical & Diagnostic Support

  • Serve as a technical resource for dealers and customers on generator set operation, controls, and common fault codes/alarms.
  • Provide first‑line diagnostic guidance (engine, alternator, ATS, controller) to support pre‑sale technical questions and post‑sale field issues.
  • Partner with service/warranty and engineering teams on recurring technical issues and feed field findings back into product and quoting decisions.
  • Support seismic, emissions, and other certification‑related technical questions from customers during the bid process.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Power Systems Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience with generators/power equipment.
  • 3+ years of experience in generator sales engineering, application engineering, or field service, ideally with diesel or natural gas generator sets.
  • Working knowledge of generator controllers (e.g., DSE, ComAp), ATS operation, and basic electrical/mechanical fault diagnosis.
  • Experience preparing technical quotes, bids, or proposals; government/IDIQ bid experience a plus.
  • Comfortable advising on and selling fuel tank and trailer options sized to the generator.
  • Strong Excel skills; CRM and ERP system experience a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer/dealer site visits.
