Job summary

Day & Zimmermann is seeking a Safety Specialist to implement, monitor, and evaluate safety programs at Hawthorne Army Depot. The role provides technical guidance, conducts inspections and incident reviews, and coordinates with teams to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

The position supports continuous improvement through safety assessments, training, reporting, and collaboration with operating teams, contractors, and agencies.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years of related experience in safety operations, inspection, incident management, or emergency services.

Responsibilities

• Recommend safety program improvements based on plans and depot practices.
• Conduct site surveys to evaluate safety controls and adherence to procedures.
• Investigate incidents, maintain reports, and track corrective actions.
• Provide technical safety guidance to employees and coordinate trainings.
• Coordinate with government agencies for safety guidance and share findings.
• Support development of safe handling, storage, and disposal of ammunition and components; respond to emergencies.
