Job summary

Diversified Construction & Design is seeking an experienced Industrial Painter to prepare, abrasive blast, coat, and finish structural steel, piping, tanks, equipment, and other industrial surfaces. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial coatings, surface preparation, abrasive blasting, and painting equipment.

Work will involve operating blasting and painting equipment, following project specifications, and maintaining safety standards in an on-site industrial environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous industrial painting, coating, and abrasive blasting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial surface preparation, coating application, and abrasive blasting techniques.
  • Ability to achieve required surface profiles and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting or coating by cleaning, scraping, sanding, grinding, pressure washing, and abrasive blasting/sandblasting.
  • Perform various levels of abrasive blasting according to project specifications.
  • Operate and maintain abrasive blasting equipment (pots, hoses, nozzles, compressors).
  • Inspect prepared surfaces and verify cleanliness and profile before coating.
  • Apply primers, paints, epoxies, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, spray equipment.
  • Mix coatings per specs and monitor thickness and quality.
  • Protect surrounding surfaces from overspray and damage.
  • Read product data sheets and follow coating specs and work instructions.

Job description

Diversified Construction & Design is looking for an experienced Industrial Painter to prepare, abrasive blast, coat, and finish structural steel, piping, tanks, equipment, machinery, and other industrial surfaces. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial coatings, surface preparation, abrasive blasting, and painting equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare surfaces for painting or coating by cleaning, scraping, sanding, grinding, pressure washing, and abrasive blasting/sandblasting.
  • Perform required degrees of abrasive blasting, including sweep blasting, commercial blast cleaning, near-white metal blast cleaning, and white metal blast cleaning, according to project specifications.
  • Operate and maintain abrasive blasting equipment, including blast pots, hoses, nozzles, compressors, and related equipment.
  • Remove rust, mill scale, corrosion, existing coatings, grease, dirt, and other contaminants and verify proper surface cleanliness and profile before coating.
  • Select appropriate blasting media and set up containment as required to control dust, debris, and abrasive material.
  • Apply industrial primers, paints, epoxies, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, conventional spray, and airless spray equipment.
  • Mix and prepare coatings according to manufacturer and project specifications and monitor coating thickness and quality.
  • Mask, cover, and protect surrounding surfaces and equipment from overspray, abrasive media, or damage.
  • Inspect prepared and coated surfaces and perform necessary repairs or touch-ups.
  • Properly operate, inspect, clean, and maintain blasting, painting, and related equipment.
  • Read and follow product data sheets, coating specifications, and work instructions.
  • Properly handle, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, coatings, abrasive media, and related materials.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms as required.
  • Follow all company, client, OSHA, PPE, respiratory protection, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous industrial painting, coating, and abrasive blasting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial surface preparation, coating application, and abrasive blasting techniques.
  • Knowledge of sweep blasting, commercial blast cleaning, near-white metal blast cleaning, and white metal blast cleaning.
  • Ability to achieve required surface profiles and cleanliness standards.
  • Experience with abrasive blasting and airless spray equipment preferred.
  • Ability to properly mix and apply industrial coatings and identify coating or surface preparation defects.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, blasting equipment, and painting equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand safety information, SDS, manufacturer specifications, and work instructions.
  • Must be dependable, work effectively as part of a team, and successfully complete required pre-employment and project-specific requirements.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work overhead.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and work platforms and work safely at elevated heights.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and respiratory protection and handle blasting hoses and painting equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
Work Environment & Safety

Work is primarily performed in industrial and construction environments and may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, heights, confined spaces, dust, fumes, chemicals, solvents, noise, abrasive blasting operations, and moving equipment.

Employees must follow all company, client, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements; properly use required PPE; inspect equipment before use; and immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, or defective equipment.

Work schedules may occasionally include overtime, weekends, nights, and extended shifts depending on project requirements.
