Job summary

OTC's Engineered Systems Group is seeking an Applications Controls Engineer to commission, test, validate, and optimize automated finishing and dispensing systems in industrial paint environments. The role emphasizes startup, troubleshooting, and hands-on work with PLCs, HMIs, networking, and process automation on site.

The ideal candidate will have a technical college degree with substantial controls experience, travel up to 40–50%, and a focus on safe, reliable operation within manufacturing

Qualifications

• Technical college degree with 5–7 years of controls engineering or 10+ years in manufacturing automation.
• Direct experience with industrial paint systems and paint shop equipment preferred.
• Proficiency with PLCs, HMIs, and field networking in automated finishing processes.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and document commissioning activities for controls systems in paint shops and manufacturing operations.
• Design, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, HMI, VFD, servo, and networked control systems during installation and startup.
• Verify wiring, I/O, safety circuits, and instrumentation for conformance with design intent and standards.
• Conduct loop checks, functional tests, and acceptance tests for automated systems.
• Support SCADA, data collection, and line tracking interfaces where applicable.
• Create commissioning reports, punch lists, and operating procedures.
• Ensure safety requirements and lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance after handoff.
