Job summary

Pendleton Woolen Mills (retail) in Washington state seeks a Millwright 1 to install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify industrial machinery across the facility. The role covers welding, fabrication, machining, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rigging, with safety as a priority; you will read blueprints and work with electricians and maintenance teams.

Competitive schedule Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM with shift differentials on other shifts, paid holidays, and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing industrial machinery.
  • Experience with metal fabrication, machining, and the use of machine and maintenance tools.
  • Experience with stick, TIG, and MIG welding and the ability to perform high-quality steel and metal welding.
  • Experience with acetylene and plasma cutting.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, fluid-pumping, and related mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of rigging practices, overhead cranes, and mobile equipment operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret 2-D and 3-D blueprints, technical drawings, assembly instructions, and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to use precision measurement instruments and accurately read calipers, tape measures, and metric and standard measurements.
  • Ability to identify grades and sizes of bolts, pipes, tubing, cables, wires, and other mechanical components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate repair methods.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions in English.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision and effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • Must be self-motivated, responsible, dependable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new jobs, equipment, and skills.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and scissor lifts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, dismantle, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform advanced cutting, welding, machining, and fabrication, including acetylene and plasma cutting and stick, TIG, and MIG welding.
  • Inspect equipment to identify malfunctions and determine appropriate repairs or corrective action.
  • Operate machine tools and maintenance equipment used to fabricate parts required for machinery overhaul, maintenance, repair, and installation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fluid-pumping systems and perform necessary repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and systems.
  • Utilize precision measurement instruments and accurately read calipers, tape measures, and metric and standard measurements.
  • Read and interpret 2-D and 3-D blueprints, drawings, assembly instructions, and technical specifications.
  • Perform rigging and safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, scissor lifts, and other mobile or material-handling equipment as required.
  • Start up, shut down, and perform general operation and monitoring of boilers as assigned.
  • Inspect equipment and troubleshoot malfunctions to determine appropriate repairs or corrective action.
  • Follow established lockout/tagout, machine safety, PPE, and other applicable safety procedures when performing maintenance and repair work.
  • Maintain accurate documentation through the Quality Management System, including applicable work instructions, maintenance documentation, and training records.
  • Maintain clean and orderly shops, work areas, tools, and job sites.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance needs and equipment breakdowns as required.
  • Be available for overtime and call-in work on off-shifts and weekends as necessary, including opening the Mill early on Mondays and securing the Mill on Saturdays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support department and Mill operations
