Job summary

Commercial Metals Company in Mesa, AZ seeks a maintenance technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment across industrial environments. You will read hydraulic schematics, use welding and rigging skills, and uphold safety standards while supporting production goals.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of experience and strong knowledge of pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, and related fabrication tasks. This role requires rotating shifts and physical work in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience maintaining or repairing heavy equipment.
  • Advanced experience with pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, and rigging.
  • Ability to read hydraulic schematics and diagnose pressure issues.
  • Welding, cutting and fabrication experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment and tools.
  • Use SAP maintenance module to document actions and track downtime.
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics to guide repairs.
  • Maintain safety and follow PPE rules.

What You'll Do
  • Participates in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively upholds the CMC Safety Culture
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment, hand tools and personal knowledge to determine root cause
  • Use SAP maintenance module in the execution of duties, utilize computers to acquire information, documentation, account for time and corrective actions
  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics
  • Monitor and inspect equipment for defects. Properly remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, overhead cranes, hand, and power tools
  • Possess specific fundamental knowledge of bearings, power transmission equipment, hydraulics/pneumatics, lubrication, welding principles, rigging, overhead cranes, gearboxes, and mobile equipment operation
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Determine grades and sizes of bolts, pipes, tubing, cables, and wires
  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Meet expectations of work quality
  • Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by following safety rules and regulations at all times including proper wearing of company PPE
  • Participate in CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture
  • All other duties as assigned
What You'll Need
  • 1-3 years of experience maintaining or repairing heavy equipment in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing setting (steel mill experience preferred).
  • Advanced experience with pumps, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and rigging/heavy-load calculations.
  • Ability to read hydraulic schematics, troubleshoot hydraulic systems, and diagnose pressure-related issues.
  • Ability to utilize precision measurement instruments
  • Experience with welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment maintenance preferred
  • Ability to work rotating shifts which include weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, bending, and working at heights in extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
