Job summary

CMC, a Fortune 500 company, is seeking a maintenance-focused professional in Columbia, SC. You’ll participate in safety programs, diagnose issues, and drive maintenance activities using SAP and QMOS across plants.

This role emphasizes hands-on fabrication, inspection, and collaboration to keep operations running smoothly. The position requires years of field experience in heavy industrial environments, welding/fabrication knowledge, and the ability to work rotating shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• Must stand/walk/bend and work at heights for extended periods in extreme temperatures.
• Ability to read hydraulic schematics and diagnose pressure-related issues.
• Experience with welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment maintenance preferred.
• Minimum 1 year field experience in heavy industrial operations; 3+ years strongly preferred.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and uphold the Safety Culture.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems and determine root cause with test equipment and tools.
• Use SAP maintenance module to execute duties, document work, and account for time.
• Lead maintenance projects and coordinate with peers and contractors.
• Interpret blueprints and schematics; monitor equipment for defects; perform repairs.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and up‑hold the CMC Safety Culture
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment, hand tools, and personal knowledge to determine root cause
• Use the SAP maintenance module to execute duties, acquire information, document work, and account for time and corrective actions
• Demonstrate dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
• Determine grades and sizes of bolts, pipes, tubing, cables, and wires
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics
• Meet expectations of work quality
• Monitor and inspect equipment for defects; remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, overhead cranes, hand, and power tools
• Possess specific fundamental knowledge of bearings, power transmission equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, welding principles, rigging, overhead cranes, gearboxes, and mobile equipment operation
• Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
• Work safely to prevent on‑the‑job injuries by following safety rules and regulations and by wearing the company PPE
• Lead, coordinate, and document assigned maintenance projects, including work involving processes, peers, and contractors
• Lead department start‑up and shut‑down activities according to standard operating or routine procedures
• Troubleshoot issues as they arise
• Use SAP to execute work orders and preventive maintenance and use QMOS to follow up on delays
• Work safely at all times by following safety rules, regulations, and PPE requirements

What You’ll Need

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work at heights for extended periods in extreme temperatures
• Ability to utilize precision measurement instruments
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Experience with welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment maintenance preferred
• Minimum 1 year field experience in heavy industrial operations and/or manufacturing environment preferred
• Minimum 3 years field experience in heavy industrial operations and/or manufacturing environment strongly preferred
• Ability to read hydraulic schematics, troubleshoot hydraulic systems, and diagnose pressure‑related issues
• Advanced experience with pumps, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and rigging/heavy‑load calculations
• Minimum 5 years experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments
• Positive attitude with strong communication skills and willingness to support team and shift coverage needs

• High School Diploma or GED required
