Job summary

Ryerson Canada is seeking a Utility Mechanic in Norcross, GA to repair and maintain plant equipment daily, including processing and material handling equipment, overhead cranes, and building systems.

The role requires 3–5 years of manufacturing maintenance experience, knowledge of coil processing equipment, OSHA standards, and proficiency with PLCs, electrical, mechanical systems, pneumatics and hydraulics. Apprenticeship onboarding is part of the program.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably steel processing.
• Knowledge of coil processing equipment (cut-to-length & slitters).
• Familiar with OSHA requirements for equipment safety.
• Proficient with PLCs, electrical, mechanical systems, air, hydraulics, and blueprints.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
• Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Promote and demonstrate a safe work environment.
• Follow maintenance schedules and preventive maintenance programs.
• Train and supervise operators on daily maintenance tasks.
• Respond to unscheduled breakdowns with urgency.
• Coordinate outside maintenance services as needed.
• Order parts to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.
• Follow ISO policies and safety/environmental guidelines.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
• Ongoing duties may change with notice.
