Job summary

Century Aluminum Company in Goose Creek, SC is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 8 to perform industrial mechanical maintenance, fabrication, installation and repair of machinery and facilities under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.

You must have five years of heavy equipment maintenance experience or an equivalent apprenticeship and a high school diploma or trade training; the role requires safe work practices, strong diagnostic skills and the ability to read blueprints.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years industrial mechanical maintenance experience.
• Formal Apprenticeship or equivalent trades training is desirable.
• Vocational or high school graduate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Must demonstrate the ability to comply with all Mt. Holly and plant PPE requirements and safety protocols.
• Must possess the skills and abilities to work autonomously while conducting routine mechanical tasks.
• Familiar with the handling, operation and safe use of all types of Mechanical Equipment including hydraulic systems, gearboxes, conveyor equipment, vibrating feeders, hammer mills, cranes, mechanical drives and assorted industrial equipment.
• Tools and equipment used are hand tools, measuring devices, power tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, breaks, benders, shears, iron workers, pipe cutting and threading equipment, etc. Welding, burning and metal joining equipment, hoists, cranes, mobile equipment, test instruments, gauges, equipment ladders, scaffold, hand and power tools common to the trade.
• Read and work from blueprints, sketches, charts, manuals, instruction books, diagrams and other information and instructions. Fill out reports and other necessary paperwork.
• structures and facilities. Install, inspect, maintain and repair piping systems, associated fixtures and equipment.
• Perform cutting, welding, brazing and soldering work with metal sheet and plate, including the necessary layout work.
• Operate cranes, mobile equipment, and erects and disassembles scaffolding in conjuction with repair work.
• Perform necessary painting and related cleaning and surface preparation.
• Actively participate in crew and plant safety programs.
• Assist in warehouse parts and inventory control.
• Assist in the upgrade of PM's and lubes through planning.
• Actively participate in problem solving.
• Participate in out-of-schedule working hours, i.e.; fill-ins, breakdowns and overhauls.
• Work rotating shift.
• Maintain job continuity.
• Communicate freely with the technician/supervisor.
• Utilize computer systems, i.e.; daily time entries, functions for the CMMS system.
• Continue to upgrade oneself through education/skills associated with their trade.
• Maintain personal and company tools in a safe and usable condition at all times.
