Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Professional to lead comprehensive IH programs at our Oak Ridge, TN site.

Qualifications

  • Requires background in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in ES&H with IH focus, preferably in manufacturing, lab, or energy sectors.
  • Hands-on air monitoring, noise dosimetry, IH instrumentation, and sampling methods.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain comprehensive IH programs to identify, assess, and mitigate exposures.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments and IH surveys.
  • Maintain exposure records and recommend controls (engineering, administrative, PPE).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOE, and other regulations and standards (ACGIH TLVs, NIOSH RELs).
  • Prepare documentation for audits, inspections, and reporting; serve as SME during inspections.
  • Develop and deliver IH training on chemical safety, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and hazard communication.
  • Educate employees and leaders on hazards and safe work practices; participate in incident investigations.
  • Perform risk assessments and JHAs; partner with operations to integrate IH into design and changes.
  • Lead CI initiatives to improve safety culture and reduce health risks; advise on PPE selection.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Industrial Hygiene Professional to support our client! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, TN.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive industrial hygiene programs to identify, assess, and mitigate occupational exposures (chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards).

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments, including air sampling, noise monitoring, and other IH surveys.

  • Maintain exposure records and recommend appropriate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOE, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards (e.g., ACGIH TLVs, NIOSH RELs).

  • Prepare and maintain documentation for audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert during regulatory inspections and internal compliance reviews.

  • Develop and deliver training programs on key industrial hygiene topics such as chemical safety, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and hazard communication.

  • Educate employees and leadership on workplace hazards and safe work practices.

  • Participate in incident investigations related to occupational health exposures and recommend corrective actions.

  • Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to proactively identify and address potential hazards.

  • Partner with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to integrate IH considerations into process design and workplace changes.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to advance safety culture and reduce health risks.

  • Provide technical guidance on the selection and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to integrate MC&A controls into facility operations.

  • Communicate compliance status, risks, and corrective actions clearly to leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work

  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed

  • Background in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Experience in ES&H with a focus on industrial hygiene, preferably in manufacturing, laboratory, or energy sector environments.

  • Hands‑on experience with air monitoring equipment, noise dosimeters, IH instrumentation, and sampling methods.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, ACGIH TLVs, NIOSH criteria, and exposure control strategies.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret sampling data and recommend effective controls.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and training skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency with IH software, data management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential strongly preferred; equivalent demonstrated senior‑level industrial hygiene expertise will be considered.
