Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Business Systems Communication Lead to support Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Based in Los Alamos, this full-time role focuses on change communications around replacing a legacy ERP with a modern enterprise platform.

The candidate will work with leadership, manage multi-channel campaigns, develop content for employees and stakeholders, and coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure timely, clear messaging throughout the transition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or sciences with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required due to federal nature of work.
  • Active or recently active DOE “Q” or DoD “Top Secret” clearance.
  • Strong editing and writing skills with excellent English grammar and punctuation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word; baseline understanding of AI tools and prompt engineering.
  • Experience in planning and executing multi‑channel communications for large programs.
  • Experience working with executive leaders on diverse projects.
  • Track record of integrating multimedia content into campaigns to reach broad audiences.
  • Experience in national laboratories or large government organizations; familiarity with facility operation procedures.
  • Change management communications expertise, including newsletters, for large-scale transformations (SAP S/4HANA preferred).

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Business Systems Communication Lead to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory ! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and develop strategic and tactical communications for an important organizational change management component of the Lab’s effort to replace its legacy ERP business system with a modern enterprise platform.
  • Work in tandem with the Program Change Manager, this role serves as a key communications advisor to project leadership, workstream leads, system integrator partners, and engagement teams.
  • Lead communications planning across multiple workstreams and execute and deploy implementation strategies, helping teams anticipate communications needs and engage employees Lab-wide throughout the transition.
  • Collaborate with critical internal partner organizations and external stakeholders throughout the project’s implementation.
  • Coordinate the efforts of Lab multi-media staff, contribute to content development for internal audiences—including employees, managers, and other stakeholders—across a variety of channels, and maintain communication protocols across the program team.
  • Help maintain consistent messaging and manage key communication vehicles, ensuring employees receive clear, timely information about upcoming changes, how staff may be affected, and how they will be supported and prepared for the transition to the new system.
Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in English, journalism, communications, or a physical, life, or social science and 12+ years of relevant experience; additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must have an active or very recently active DOE “Q” Clearance or DoD “Top Secret” Clearance.
  • Technical knowledge and tools: You will have a thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, and extensive experience in editing and writing. You will also have advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word and have a baseline understanding of generative AI tools, prompt engineering, evaluating AI-generated content for accuracy and quality, and applying AI responsibly within organizational policies.
  • Communication planning & execution : This role calls for strong communication skills and project-management experience with large, enterprise-wide initiatives. You should be an excellent writer and editor with sound judgment and the ability to work as a trusted partner to leadership. You must also be proficient in assessing challenges and creating and executing multi-channel communication campaigns that achieve specific, measurable goals.
  • Executive communication : You should have experience working with executive-level leaders on a wide variety of projects and products. You will understand how to capture an executive’s “voice” and be able to create successful communication materials — such as quotes or correspondence — without significant oversight.
  • Web-based & multimedia strategy : We’re looking for someone who has a track record of taking communications to the next level by strategically integrating multimedia content (photos, video, and graphics) into campaigns that reach any audience where they are and drive results.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience working in a national laboratory or other large government organization. Experience with procedures and other process/policy documents related to facility operations. An ability to recognize and coordinate responses to potential third-party relationships that may be affected by the project.
  • Change management communications expertise: You understand, and have some experience in, organizational change management principles and how to craft communications (including newsletters) that support employee adoption and engagement. Preference will be given to candidates who have previously worked on a multi-functional, large-scale business transformation project, particularly one involving SAP S/4HANA.

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering ( energy.gov ).
