Job summary

GROUP Contractors is seeking a diligent Industrial Carpenter Helper for field construction projects. You will read blueprints, measure materials, and assemble structures with precision on outdoor job sites.

Responsibilities include forms construction, concrete settings, and using surveying tools to ensure accuracy. Requires 2+ years in the field, NCCER certification or in-house assessment, TWIC, and OSHA basics. Outdoor, full-time work with varying hours and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Reads blueprints, sketches, or building plans to determine material and dimensions.
• Must have in-house Carpenter Helper Assessment or NCCER certification.
• Experience in industrial field as Carpenter Helper preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reads and studies blueprints for material type and dimensions.
• Selects and transports materials and tools for the job.
• Measures boards and marks cutting lines with square or ruler.
• Shapes materials to required measurements using saws and planes.
• Assembles cut materials and fastens with nails or glue.
• Braces forms in place for concrete piers and walls.
• Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Builds false work to support or protect concrete structures.
• Verifies trueness with plumb bob or carpenter's level.
• Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
• May perform light administrative duties.

Job description

General Description:

Assist Craftsman in the construction, erection, installation, and repairs of structures and fixtures

of metal, wood, plywood, and/or wallboard using hand tools and power tools.

Essential Functions:

• Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
• Selects and transports appropriate materials and tools for job.
• Measures boards, timbers, plywood or other materials using a square, tape, and/or ruler, and marks cutting lines on material.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
• Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, glue, or dowel pins.
• Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings, and walls.
• Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Builds false work to temporarily strengthen, protect or disguise building concrete piers, footings, and walls.
• Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and/or carpenters level.
• Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Utilizes basic math skills while doing surveys and for measurements and assembly of structures.
• Duties may include light administration and assistance to Project Superintendent.

Physical Demands:

Field/Jobsite Environment – Standing, sitting, climbing, crawling, standing, crouching, bending,

pushing/pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to loud noises are to be expected

on a jobsite environment. This position is predominately outdoors at an Industrial Construction

Site. Exposure to extreme hot or cold outside temperatures is possible.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours:

This is a full-time, hourly position. Days and hours of work vary from each jobsite. Occasional

evening/weekend work or travel may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience:

• 2+ years of industrial field experience as an Industrial Carpenter Helper
• Must take in-house Carpenter Helper Assessment or hold NCCER Industrial Carpenter
• Certification

Industry Related Requirements:

• Must hold a valid TWIC Card
• Must hold a valid OSHA Basic Plus
• Must be able to pass all Safety Council related courses
• Must undergo Pre-Employment Screening (physical, drug & alcohol screen, audiogram, fit test if applicable)
• Must hold a valid Driver’s License to operate company equipment and/or vehicles
