Job summary

Group-Contractors is seeking an Industrial Carpenter Helper for field construction tasks at various job sites in the region. You will read plans, measure, cut, and assemble materials using common carpentry tools, and assist with concrete forming and temporary structures.

The role requires 2+ years of industrial experience, compliance with TWIC/OSHA, and ability to travel between sites. A valid driver's license is necessary for equipment operation and site access.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of industrial field experience as an Industrial Carpenter Helper.
• Must take in-house Carpenter Helper Assessment or hold NCCER Industrial Carpenter Certification.
• Must hold a valid TWIC Card.
• Must hold a valid OSHA Basic Plus.
• Must pass all Safety Council related courses.
• Must hold a valid Driver’s License to operate company equipment/vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Reads blueprints for material type and dimensions.
• Selects and transports materials and tools to the jobsite.
• Measures and marks cutting lines on material.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
• Assembles pieces using nails, glue or dowel pins.
• Braces forms for concrete piers, footings and walls.
• Constructs forms and chutes for concrete pouring.
• Builds false work to strengthen structures.
• Verifies trueness with plumb bob/level.
• Operates survey equipment for accuracy.
• Assists Project Superintendent as needed.

Job description

General Description:

Assist Craftsman in the construction, erection, installation, and repairs of structures and fixtures

of metal, wood, plywood, and/or wallboard using hand tools and power tools.

Essential Functions:

• Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
• Selects and transports appropriate materials and tools for job.
• Measures boards, timbers, plywood or other materials using a square, tape, and/or ruler, and marks cutting lines on material.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
• Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, glue, or dowel pins.
• Braces forms in place with timbers, tie-rods, and anchor bolts for use in building concrete piers, footings, and walls.
• Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Builds false work to temporarily strengthen, protect or disguise building concrete piers, footings, and walls.
• Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and/or carpenters level.
• Operates survey equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Utilizes basic math skills while doing surveys and for measurements and assembly of structures.
• Duties may include light administration and assistance to Project Superintendent.

Physical Demands:

Field/Jobsite Environment – Standing, sitting, climbing, crawling, standing, crouching, bending,

pushing/pulling, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to loud noises are to be expected

on a jobsite environment. This position is predominately outdoors at an Industrial Construction

Site. Exposure to extreme hot or cold outside temperatures is possible.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours:

This is a full-time, hourly position. Days and hours of work vary from each jobsite. Occasional

evening/weekend work or travel may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience:

• 2+ years of industrial field experience as an Industrial Carpenter Helper
• Must take in-house Carpenter Helper Assessment or hold NCCER Industrial Carpenter
• Certification

Industry Related Requirements:

• Must hold a valid TWIC Card
• Must hold a valid OSHA Basic Plus
• Must be able to pass all Safety Council related courses
• Must undergo Pre-Employment Screening (physical, drug & alcohol screen, audiogram, fit test if applicable)
• Must hold a valid Driver’s License to operate company equipment and/or vehicles
