Job summary

Brose in New Boston, Michigan is seeking an engineering-oriented intern who will rotate through production units to gain hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, layouts, and assembly operations. The role supports the Industrial Engineering team with time studies, cycle time analysis, and line balancing, while aiding the development of process diagrams, P-FMEA, and layouts.

The candidate will assist with work instruction updates, participate in trial builds, contribute to safety

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a Freshman or Sophomore pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field.
• No prior professional experience required; exposure to manufacturing or production environments is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in manufacturing and continuous improvement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Willingness and ability to learn engineering and business systems such as AutoCAD, SAP, and MFG/PRO.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across production and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through production units to gain hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, plant layout, and assembly.
• Support Industrial Engineering with time studies, cycle time analysis, and line balancing.
• Assist with development and maintenance of process flow diagrams, P-FMEA, and manufacturing layouts.
• Support updates to work instructions reflecting current production processes and changes.
• Participate in trial builds and PPAP/ISIR activities for new and existing programs.
• Aid ergonomics assessments and job-safety analyses following OSHA requirements.
• Assist with skill matrix tracking and auditing of training records.
• Compile and analyze production, quality, and attendance data for reporting and continuous improvement.
• Work with IE Coordinators and Team Leads in cross-functional production meetings.
• Support additional production and IE projects as assigned.
