Job summary

Wawona Frozen Foods is seeking an Industrial / Maintenance Engineering Intern to support Operations, Maintenance, and the Plant Engineer with Lean and Six Sigma-driven improvements. You will perform ergonomic surveys, analyze workloads, create AutoCAD layouts, review methods, and help install new equipment and layouts.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering; sophomore standing or higher preferred.
• Coursework or training in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma; Yellow/Green Belt preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other 2D/3D CAD software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data collection and analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication with operators, maintenance staff, and leadership.
• Interest in food manufacturing and continuous improvement.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Support the Continuous Improvement Engineer in planning, executing, and tracking facility-wide automation and improvement projects.
• Apply Lean principles and tools to reduce waste and improve flow.
• Use Six Sigma DMAIC and statistical tools to identify and solve production problems.
• Participate in kaizen events and A3 problem-solving with shop floor teams.
• Collect and analyze production data (OEE, yield, downtime) to establish baselines.
• Create and update AutoCAD layouts and plant area drawings.
• Evaluate equipment downtime and assist with capital project support.
• Follow GMPs, food safety, and PPE policies in all activities.
