Job summary

RTX Cedar Rapids is seeking an Industrial Engineering student for an internship/co‑op to work with manufacturing teams on day‑to‑day issues and longer‑term projects to eliminate recurring problems. You will design tooling using additive manufacturing (3D printing) to support production needs and assist with technical challenges.

What You Will Do

• Collaborate directly with manufacturing production floor employees, including operators, inspectors, quality, and test technicians, to solve day-to-day issues and proactively address longer-term projects to eliminate recurring problems.
• Design tooling to aid the manufacturing process, leveraging additive manufacturing (3D printing) to support production needs.
• Analyze and support tasks such as layout optimization, flow improvement, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
• Assist in planning and allocating resources, materials, and personnel to maximize equipment utilization.
• Conduct studies focused on cost control, productivity improvement, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems.

What You Will Learn

• Gain firsthand industrial engineering experience by working side by side with Industrial Engineers and other engineering functions in a manufacturing environment.
• Develop skills to resolve manufacturing issues related to safety, ergonomics, quality, flow, and cost.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering or related STEM major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Role Type

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

Salary range for this role

37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Incentives

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role.
