Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids, IA, is offering an internship/co-op on the manufacturing floor. You will work directly with operators, inspectors, and technicians to tackle day-to-day issues and lead long-term projects using additive manufacturing to create tooling and tooling-related improvements.

You will gain hands-on industrial engineering experience, learning to plan operations, establish standard work, and define product routings while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Systems/Aerospace Engineering.
• Strong Excel skills (formulas, data analysis, basic visualization).
• CAD experience (AutoCAD or SolidWorks).

Responsibilities

• Work with floor employees to solve day-to-day issues and address long-term projects.
• Design tooling and use 3D printing to support production needs.
• Analyze layout and flow for building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying devices and systems.
• Assist in planning resources, materials, and personnel to maximize equipment utilization.
• Conduct studies related to cost control, productivity improvement, and inventory control.

What You Will Do:

• Work directly with manufacturing production floor employees, including operators, inspectors, quality, and test technicians, to solve day-to-day issues and proactively address long-term projects to eliminate recurring problems.
• Design tooling to aid the manufacturing process while utilizing additive manufacturing (3D printing) to support production needs.
• Analyze the best layout and flow for building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
• Assist in planning the allocation of resources, materials, and personnel to maximize equipment utilization.
• Conduct studies related to cost control, productivity improvement, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems.

What You Will Learn:

• Gain firsthand industrial engineering experience by working alongside Industrial Engineers and other engineering functions in a manufacturing environment.
• Develop the ability to identify and resolve manufacturing issues related to safety, ergonomics, quality, flow, and cost.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and basic visualization.
• Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
• Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma, process mapping, time studies, or root-cause analysis.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
