Industrial Engineer: Material Flow & Lean Manufacturing

Job summary

GPAC is seeking an Industrial Engineer to support high-volume automotive program launches and drive improvements in material flow, workforce utilization, and plant layout. The engineer will coordinate internal and external processes focusing on efficiency and meeting specifications.

The candidate should have a degree in engineering, 1-3 years of relevant experience, and familiarity with Lean principles, capacity planning, time study, and racking/packaging design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or another Engineering discipline required.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Experience with continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Experience with plant capacity planning and time study analysis.
• Experience with floor space analysis and material planning.
• Experience working with suppliers and fabricators on design of material handling equipment.
• Experience designing or engineering racking and/or dunnage (returnable packaging).
• Automotive parts assembly experience, especially modular components and JIT/JIS manufacturing.
• Knowledge of warehouse management principles, including FIFO and Kanban systems.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to work with management, customers, suppliers, and plant personnel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD; SAP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and improve internal and external material flow methods.
• Analyze and plan workforce requirements, utilization, floor space, and material flow.
• Design equipment layouts and operator workspaces.
• Work with part suppliers and vendors to engineer and develop material handling equipment, storage solutions, and packaging.
• Evaluate and test material handling solutions to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
• Conduct time studies and utilize simulation techniques to analyze material flow throughout the plant.
• Calculate operator staffing requirements based on production needs and time study analysis.
• Calculate fleet requirements and manage returnable packaging.
• Partner with management and plant personnel to improve material processes and overall plant efficiency.
• Maintain and continually update PFEP (Plan for Every Part) based on engineering changes and material planning requirements.
• Support new program launches, process improvements, and other engineering initiatives.
• Perform additional projects and assignments as directed by management.
