Job summary

Southwire seeks an Intern/Co-op in Starkville, MS to join the Logistics/Engineering team for a 10-12 week internship or a 16-18 week co-op. You will gain hands-on experience applying industrial engineering concepts while developing timelines and delivering project results.

You will work on real projects, perform time studies, create process docs, and present findings to senior leaders. Potential for full-time opportunities after completion.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, analyze data, and present findings to support engineering projects and process improvements.
  • Assist in updating and creating engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate on continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety within manufacturing processes.
  • Perform time studies or capacity analyses to support production and process optimization efforts.
  • Support internal and external communication efforts related to engineering projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other engineering‑related duties as assigned.

Students will receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it in our project expo at the end of the summer. Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co‑ops with

“real world” applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

Note: All new interns and co‑ops must begin in the summer rotation.

  • Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co‑op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.
  • You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational leaders, many of whom began as interns and co‑ops themselves.
  • You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and community service /volunteer initiatives.
  • You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to a world‑class program community.
  • Finally, our rising senior interns and co‑ops are considered for full‑time employment opportunities.
Long Description

Position Summary

This position will support the Logistics team by contributing to key projects and initiatives that align with Southwire’s strategic goals. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively. They should be eager to learn, demonstrate strong problem‑solving abilities, and possess excellent communication and analytical skills.
