Role Overview

The Industrial Engineer II independently coordinates assigned engineering projects and develops improvements to manufacturing processes, workflow, and production performance. This position plans, schedules, conducts, and reviews engineering work while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, customer requirements, and PT&P standards.

As an experienced individual contributor, the Industrial Engineer II owns moderately complex projects and workstreams with limited day-to-day oversight. This role coordinates clients and internal departments, resolves technical and production issues, and provides guidance to less-experienced team members. Complex design decisions and matters outside the employee’s technical authority are escalated to the appropriate engineering leader.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute the technical and coordination aspects of assigned projects, including scope, schedules, deliverables, resource needs, and progress reporting.
  • Review drawings, specifications, bills of materials, manufacturing instructions, and other engineering deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability within assigned expertise.
  • Translate customer and engineering requirements into clear manufacturing instructions; coordinate release to the shop and resolve questions that could affect quality or delivery.
  • Analyze production methods, cycle times, material flow, capacity, and resource utilization to identify bottlenecks and recommend practical improvements.
  • Conduct time studies and workflow evaluations; develop or improve standard work, process documentation, and production planning inputs.
  • Coordinate Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Sales, Accounting, and Quality Control to address dependencies and maintain project commitments.
  • Identify developing technical, schedule, cost, and quality issues; investigate root causes, implement corrective actions with responsible teams, and verify resolution.
  • Serve as a primary contact for assigned project clients and manage delegated project activities in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Guide Industrial Engineer I employees and other assigned staff through technical questions, project coordination practices, and process improvement activities.
Project Tasks and Deliverables
  • Prepare and maintain project engineering schedules, forecasts, action logs, and weekly status reports; communicate risks and recovery plans promptly.
  • Review awarded purchase orders and contract requirements against quoted terms, technical scope, and delivery commitments; elevate discrepancies for resolution.
  • Coordinate and check engineering deliverables; maintain revision control and communicate approved changes to affected departments.
  • Work with shop production and planning personnel to establish realistic delivery schedules for all products on assigned purchase orders.
  • Support project proposals, estimates, and client meetings with technical information, manufacturing input, and schedule assumptions.
  • Document process improvement proposals and results using measures such as cycle time, throughput, labor utilization, rework, and on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate client questions and disputes, document decisions, and follow through on agreed actions without exceeding delegated authority.

Analysis and improvement: Ability to evaluate production data, conduct time studies, identify constraints, and apply root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods.

Project execution: Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate cross-functional work, track deliverables, and resolve issues with limited supervision.

Tools: Proficiency with Excel and other tools used for data analysis, reporting, and project scheduling; ability to learn company engineering and production systems.
