Job summary

Slate is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer with a strong background in General Assembly. The role focuses on optimizing processes, reducing waste, and supporting new product launches while ensuring safety, quality, and cost targets are met.

You will lead or support continuous improvement projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, design process flows, PFMEA and control plans, and mentor operators in Lean practices to help build world-class manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of Industrial Engineering experience in automotive/manufacturing with IE responsibilities.
  • Proven track record in General Assembly, process optimization and plant launch activities.
  • Startup experience desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Slate Production System (SPS) Development & Optimization.
  • Analyze, design, and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
  • Support issue resolution for General Assembly related issues from plant, field, and suppliers.
  • Support optimization of plant layouts, processes, tooling, material flow, waste management, etc.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement projects focused on cost reduction, productivity, and quality enhancements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Production, Supply Chain) to align on manufacturing strategies.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and launch readiness activities (process flow design, workstation setup, PFMEA, control plans).
  • Monitor and report KPI performance, develop dashboards and action plans for improvement.
  • Provide training and mentoring to operators and team members on Lean practices and continuous improvement culture.

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer with a strong background in General Assembly to join our team. The ideal candidate will have automotive and/or manufacturing industry experience, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives. The Industrial Engineer will play a critical role in optimizing processes, reducing waste, improving efficiency, and supporting new product launches, while ensuring safety, quality, and cost targets are consistently met. Above all, we want someone who is passionate about driving process, excellence, building capability in others, and shaping the culture of a new manufacturing organization. This role is a unique opportunity to help build and refine world-class manufacturing.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
Education & Experience
  • B.S. or M.S. in Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Industrial Engineering experience (automotive/ manufacturing w/ direct Industrial Engineering responsibilities.
  • Proven track record in General Assembly department, process optimization and plant launch activities.
  • Start-up experience desirable not required.
Skills
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, root cause analysis, and problem-solving methodologies
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Ability to align maps with KPI dashboards for tracking
  • Proven track record of delivering sustainable cost savings and process improvements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including VISIO
SALARY RANGE:

The compensationfor this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual)

108,877.26 - 163,315.90 USD Annual
