Job summary

Slate is hiring a Manufacturing Quality Engineer to drive new product development and robust QA/QC processes for vehicle manufacturing. You will partner with internal and external teams to ensure high quality launches and sustain compliance with industry standards.

This role focuses on sub-assembly and general assembly quality, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement within a startup-like environment. Strong problem solving, teamwork, and drive for data-driven decisions are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering with 8+ years of automotive quality experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive engineering/manufacturing quality at an OEM/Tier 1.
  • Strong knowledge of product/vehicle development and manufacturing launches.
  • Proven track record of delivering new program launches on time.
  • Strong problem solving and root cause capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of QA/QC disciplines.
  • Strong teamwork and communication and data-driven decisions.
  • Proficient with automotive quality tools (AIAG, IATF 169494, MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP).
  • Proficient in FMEA and Control Plans.

Please note – this position will be hired for our Crew B team. The hours for this crew are: Wednesday – Saturday, 7:00 pm – 5:30 am. You will train on day shift and move to the Crew B hours at a later date.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Slate is looking for a dynamic, experienced Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join our growing team. The position will primarily focus on new product and process development and will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and successful launch. The role will utilize core quality skills and tools to manufacture and deliver the highest quality products within our various manufacturing processes. The expectation will be to work closely with internal and external partners to ensure we exceed customers’ expectations.

WORK AUTHORIZATION REQUIREMENT:

WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
  • Develop and implement robust quality assurance and control processes relative to Sub-Assembly and General Assembly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality requirements are developed and seamlessly integrated within the manufacturing process.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to address technical and process quality issues to ensure the highest quality standards.
  • Perform regular audits and inspections of manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications for the new car launch.
  • Work closely with suppliers through the supplier quality team to establish and monitor quality expectations for incoming materials and components.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including control plans, inspection procedures, and quality manuals accordingly.
  • Risk minimization through use of appropriate risk assessment tools and verification of the robustness of detection and prevention systems for special characteristics.
  • Support the development and maintenance of FMEA’s
  • Support the definition of quality processes and technical standards in cooperation with development, product management and manufacturing to ensure product quality.
  • Support the planning and evaluation of product test drives within quality and approvals of functions and systems.
  • Provide quality support to the technical and manufacturing teams, as well as drive/support daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

The role will be expected to have high integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness and strive to exhibit a positive and growth mindset. You will feel comfortable operating in a flexible and fast paced environment with a collaborative approach to achieving goals! You’ll also bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (e.g.) industrial/ mechanical/ manufacturing or related field with experience of 8+ years
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive engineering/manufacturing quality at an OEM/ Tier 1
  • Very good technical understanding and sound knowledge of product/vehicle development and production with focus on manufacturing launch.
  • A successful history of engaging in the delivery of new program launches on time while achieving metrics.
  • Very good product and process assessment skills, problem solving and root cause capabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of quality management with in-depth knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control disciplines.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, a high level of assertiveness as well as entrepreneurial thinking and goal- and result-oriented decision-making skills
  • Proven track record of engaging and participating in high-performing teams.
  • Proficient in the use of commonly applied quality tools and processes in the automotive industry (e.g. AIAG, IATF 169494, MSA, SPC, APQP, PPAP etc.).
  • Good working knowledge of core documentation - FMEA’s and Control Plans
  • Highest level of integrity and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment.
SALARY RANGE:

The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors.

Base Pay Range (Annual) 108,877.26 - 163,315.90 USD Annual
