Industrial Engine Technician I/II (Mechanical Services)

Salary Breakdown
  • Technician I: Range 212, $36.21 - $45.10/hour, $6,276.40 - $7,817.33/month
  • Technician II: Range 214, $39.93 - $49.72/hour, $6,921.20 - $8,618.13/month
Job Summary

Under supervision, performs skilled duties in inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, overhauling, maintaining, and repairing large industrial engines (natural gas and diesel). Tasks include working with controllers and sensors, and performing related duties. Employees may be required to be on-call, including rotating shifts, weekends, and emergency responses.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have skills in designing, installing, wiring, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining microprocessor-based engine controllers, sensors, and engine management systems. Experience with operating and repairing generators, pumps, gearboxes, and pollution control systems is also desirable.

Objectives for New Hires

Within three months, gain knowledge of district policies and facilities; by six months, be able to stand on-call; and within 12 months, attain a California Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Haz-Mat endorsements.

Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing large industrial engines for Technician I.
  • Four years of similar experience for Technician II, or two years at the District as an equivalent.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid California Class A driver’s license with Haz-Mat and tank endorsements (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
