Position Description
Join Applied Medical and be at the forefront of revolutionizing medical device manufacturing. As a Technician at Applied Medical, you will be essential in ensuring the precision and functionality of robotic arms and tooling used in injection molding machines for medical device manufacturing. You will leverage your expertise in End of Arm Tooling (EOAT) setup, maintenance, and repair to support our commitment to producing high-quality medical devices that enhance patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- EOAT and Electrical System Assembly, Testing, and Troubleshooting: Perform hands-on setup, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of EOAT systems, fixtures, and associated electrical components.
- Tooling Lab and Inventory Management: Organize and maintain the EOAT tooling lab, manage spare parts inventory, and ensure tools and materials are readily available.
- Project Progress and Data Collection: Use EOAT applications to record project progress, collect data, and document key findings.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Accurately record maintenance activities, tooling adjustments, and inventory usage using Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
- Equipment and Calibration Traceability: Request and maintain traceability of equipment numbers on EOAT, tooling, and fixtures, as well as calibration numbers to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
- Procurement Support: Assist with the procurement of assembly components using the purchase order application, ensuring necessary parts are acquired in a timely manner.
- 3D Modeling Assistance: Assist in making minor modifications to tooling under the direction of engineering staff.
Performance Objectives:
Within Your First 30 Days:
- Complete all Applied Learning foundational courses and review relevant documentation (SOPs, work instructions, quality records).
- Gain hands-on experience with EOAT systems, learning setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Understand Applied Medical’s Quality Management System (QMS) and safety protocols.
- Shadow experienced EOAT technicians to learn best practices and daily tasks.
Within 60 Days:
- Demonstrate proficiency in setting up and maintaining EOAT systems for production.
- Assist in troubleshooting tooling issues and optimizing processes.
- Support documentation updates, including tooling records and work instructions.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams on tooling improvements.
Within 90 Days to One Year:
- Independently set up, maintain, and troubleshoot EOAT systems with minimal supervision.
- Lead or assist in tooling improvement projects to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date tooling documentation.
- Contribute to process improvements and collaborate with engineers on tooling modifications.
- Stay updated on EOAT advancements.
- Mentor junior technicians as needed.
Position Requirements
- High school diploma, technical trade school training, or equivalent hands-on technical experience in a related field.
- Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments to set up, repair, and maintain tooling and equipment.
- Experience with EOAT systems or robotic automation.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to tooling and quality control.
- Experience with technical documentation, including work instructions, maintenance logs, and calibration reports.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control principles.
- Experience with a variety of computer programs including spreadsheets and word processing.
- Ability to work with cross functional teams to optimize tooling for improved cycle times and part quality.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate effective documentation and collaboration across teams.
Preferred
- Experience using SolidWorks or AutoCAD reviewing tooling designs or making modifications.
- Knowledge of injection molding processes and the ability to work cross functionally to optimize tooling for improved cycle times and part quality.
- Experience drafting engineering documents such as Manufacturing and Quality Instructions, test methods, drawings, and test reports.
- Familiarity with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 or other quality management systems (QMS) applicable to medical device manufacturing.
- Experience in preventive maintenance programs and equipment lifecycle management.
- Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack up, and manufacturing processes for precision machined parts.
