C&W Services is seeking a skilled Industrial Controls and Instrumentation Technician to support a client site, maintaining and optimizing industrial control systems and instrumentation. The role emphasizes PLCs, HMIs, electrical controls, and networks to maximize equipment uptime and process performance.

The technician will perform diagnostics, calibration, and preventive maintenance, while collaborating with operations and maintenance teams on improvements and commissioning of new equipment.

Qualifications

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLCs, HMIs, and control panels.
  • Calibrating instrumentation and interpreting P&IDs and drawings.
  • Strong diagnostic skills on electrical and automation systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and optimize industrial control systems and instrumentation.
  • Diagnose and repair PLCs, HMI systems, networks, and control panels.
  • Install and test instrumentation devices including sensors and analytical instruments.
  • Calibrate field instrumentation according to specs and site requirements.
  • Repair electrical and electronic control systems supporting operations.
  • Maintain VFDs, soft starters, and motor control equipment.

Job Description Summary

C&W Services is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Controls & Instrumentation Technician to support a dedicated client site by maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and optimizing industrial control systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of production and facility systems through preventative maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in PLCs, instrumentation, electrical controls, and industrial automation systems while working closely with operations and maintenance teams to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and optimize industrial control systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment throughout the facility.
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on PLCs, HMI systems, industrial networks, control panels, and associated automation systems.
  • Install, configure, test, and commission instrumentation devices including pressure, temperature, flow, level, proximity, and analytical instruments.
  • Calibrate and verify field instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer specifications and site requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic control systems supporting manufacturing and facility operations.
  • Maintain and support Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), soft starters, motor control systems, and process control equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, control narratives, and technical documentation.
  • Support modifications, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects related to controls and automation systems.
  • Assist with commissioning, startup, and validation of new equipment and control systems.
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and process performance.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on controls and instrumentation assets.
  • Troubleshoot communication networks including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, Profibus, and other industrial protocols as applicable.
  • Utilize testing and diagnostic equipment including multimeters, process calibrators, signal generators, and network diagnostic tools.
