Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience wiring industrial control panels, switchgear, MCCs, or similar systems in a panel shop, electrical contractor, or OEM environment.
  • Comfortable reading electrical schematics and panel drawings without hand-holding.
  • Confident using a multimeter on low-voltage (24 VDC/VAC) control circuits for continuity, voltage, and basic current measurements.
  • Familiarity with common panel components: terminal blocks, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, fuses, power supplies, and PLC I/O.
  • Basic computer literacy, including comfort installing and using Windows software and connecting to devices over serial or Ethernet.
  • Ability to follow wiring standards and produce consistent, inspectable work.

Responsibilities

  • Build and wire control cabinets and backpans from electrical drawings, including mounting DIN rail, wire duct, terminal blocks, power supplies, relays, PLCs, I/O modules, and network hardware.
  • Cut, strip, crimp, ferrule, route, bundle, and label wire to shop standards, including wire numbers, terminal IDs, and tidy duct fill.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, terminal charts, and I/O lists; mark up redlines when the as-built differs from the drawing.
  • Perform point-to-point continuity checks against drawings before power-up.
  • Troubleshoot live 24V control wiring with a multimeter, verifying supply rails and tracing signals through terminals and relays to isolate opens, shorts, miswires, and swapped pairs.
  • Use PLC software to view I/O status, force points during checkout, and help determine whether a problem is in the wiring or in the code.
  • Assist with panel functional testing (FAT prep), document test results, and correct punch-list items.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to support installation, checkout, and commissioning (up to 20% travel).
  • Keep the shop area organized and support inventory of wire, terminals, and panel components.
