ControlCom Technologies Engineering in Fort Myers, FL is seeking a hands-on Control Panel Technician to build and wire control cabinets and backpans for industrial control systems.

You will read electrical drawings, lay out and label panels, perform continuity checks and 24V circuit checkout, and use PLC software during FAT prep with our controls engineers.

This role offers growth in a safety‑driven environment supporting hospitals, data centers, utilities, and telecom systems.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience wiring industrial control panels, switchgear, MCCs, or similar systems in a panel shop, electrical contractor, or OEM environment.
  • Comfortable reading electrical schematics and panel drawings without hand-holding.
  • Confident using a multimeter on low-voltage (24 VDC/VAC) control circuits for continuity, voltage, and basic current measurements.
  • Familiarity with common panel components: terminal blocks, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, fuses, power supplies, and PLC I/O.
  • Basic computer literacy, including comfort installing and using Windows software and connecting to devices over serial or Ethernet.
  • Ability to follow wiring standards and produce consistent, inspectable work.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work with hand and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 20% for site support.

Responsibilities

  • Build and wire control cabinets and backpans from electrical drawings, including mounting DIN rail, wire duct, terminal blocks, power supplies, relays, PLCs, I/O modules, and network hardware.
  • Cut, strip, crimp, ferrule, route, bundle, and label wire to shop standards, including wire numbers, terminal IDs, and tidy duct fill.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, terminal charts, and I/O lists; mark up redlines when the as-built differs from the drawing.
  • Perform point-to-point continuity checks against drawings before power-up.
  • Troubleshoot live 24V control wiring with a multimeter, verifying supply rails and tracing signals through terminals and relays to isolate opens, shorts, miswires, and swapped pairs.
  • Use PLC software to view I/O status, force points during checkout, and help determine whether a problem is in the wiring or in the code.
  • Assist with panel functional testing (FAT prep), document test results, and correct punch-list items.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed to support installation, checkout, and commissioning (up to 20% travel).
  • Keep the shop area organized and support inventory of wire, terminals, and panel components.
