Job summary

Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering in Lenexa, KS seeks a Building Estimator to develop comprehensive cost estimates for industrial facilities. You will work with engineering and construction teams, reviewing contract documents to prepare bids across design-bid-build, design-build, and EPC delivery.

Responsibilities include assembling subcontract bid packages, interpreting drawings, and applying best practices to achieve accurate estimates within project timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred).
• 2+ years estimating experience in building construction or subcontract management.
• Understanding of Metal Building Structures and building systems.
• Experience with EPC/Design-Build environments and bid processes.
• Knowledge of construction means, methods, costs and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Use engineering techniques to conduct estimates and adhere to policy across all estimate types.
• Prepare estimates for different execution methods (design-bid-build, design-build).
• Review owner documents to develop detailed cost estimates.
• Create subcontract bid packages to obtain quotes from vendors.
• Assess required design deliverables from each discipline for estimate accuracy.
• Review drawings and specs for lighting, power, HVAC, and plumbing systems in bid packages.
• Apply best practices, project sequencing, and regional considerations to estimates.
• Collaborate with the estimate team to address bid challenges and changes.
• Participate in bid reviews and present findings to department heads.
