Job summary

Wolter in De Pere is seeking an experienced Industrial Battery Technician to join our growing team. You will install and service battery power systems on customer premises, with a company service van, iPad, credit card, and cell phone provided.

This role requires hands-on repair of batteries and chargers, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, and a focus on safety. You will work with dispatchers, training classes, and inventory management while building relationships with sales for

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience repairing and servicing batteries, chargers and related equipment.
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge required.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good time management and ability to multitask.
  • Basic computer proficiency and laptop use.
  • Own tools required per company list.
  • Valid driver's license with clean record.
  • Certified to operate material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service calls to repair batteries, chargers and handling equipment.
  • Read documentation to troubleshoot issues.
  • Test batteries to diagnose performance and recommend improvements.
  • Move and maintain inventory of batteries at the branch location.
  • Submit time cards and maintenance reports.
  • Attend service training to stay current with products.
  • Communicate with dispatcher about job status and availability.
  • Identify complex repairs for shop evaluation and repair.
  • Assist with warehouse duties and special projects.
  • Adhere to safety rules at all times.

Industrial Battery Technicians are responsible for installing and servicing battery power systems on customer premises. Technicians are provided with a company service van, iPad, credit card, and cell phone.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Perform service calls at customer locations to repair batteries, chargers and battery handling equipment.
  • Read documentation to research and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ability to test batteries to diagnose, and analyze performance to ultimately make recommendation of battery performance.
  • Move and maintain inventory of returned batteries, scrap batteries and customer batteries at the respective branch location.
  • Complete and submit information for jobs worked on via tablet or hardcopy (time cards, maintenance reports with customers’ signature).
  • Attend service training classes offered to maintain knowledge on new products, or for refreshers on products not encountered too often.
  • Communicate with dispatcher and/or service office as to status of jobs and availability for new jobs.
  • Identify jobs that should be sent to our shop for repair (due to complexity or safety reasons) and recommend they be sent in.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with territory sales representatives to keep them informed of sales opportunities you might see.
  • Assist with duties in the warehouse as required, or special projects as needed.
  • Always adhere to safety rules and policies at all times.
Essential skills and experience:
  • Must have very good skills in repairing and servicing batteries, chargers and related equipment, with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience.
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge.
  • Strong customer orientation.
  • Must be a good communicator – written and verbal.
  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic computer proficiency and laptop fundamentals.
  • Must own tools necessary to perform repairs, per our recommended tool list.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Must be certified to operate material handling equipment.
  • Commitment to company vision and mission.
Physical demands:

Employee frequently lifts up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds, and rarely up to 100 pounds. Employee is required to frequently stand, recline (lying on back), kneel, walk, twist, reach, and use feet to repair and operate machinery. Employee is required to occasionally sit, stoop, crouch, squat, climb, and crawl. Constant use of hands and fingers to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, computer equipment, and other office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have listening, speaking, and writing skills to communicate with customers and service office. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment can include loud noises, extreme cold or extreme heat, and vibration. Might be exposed to mists, dust, odors or gases, and will be frequently exposed to moving machinery or parts, and power tools. When performing duties of this job, it is a requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment whenever appropriate – to include (but not limited to) hard hats, steel-toe safety shoes, and safety glasses.
