High Liner Foods in Newport News, VA is seeking a Refrigeration Technician to join our Maintenance Team. You will operate, inspect, and repair ammonia refrigeration systems in a frozen food manufacturing environment in accordance with IIAR and ASHRAE standards while following safety regulations.

The role requires hands-on experience, ability to work in wide temperature ranges, on-call availability, and strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; further education preferred.
• 3 years of refrigeration experience.
• General mechanical knowledge and abilities.
• Basic math skills.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in wide temperature and climate conditions.
• On-call availability.
• Must be authorized to work legally in the United States; relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

• Starts and operates refrigeration compressors for daily production.
• Starts and operates blast freezers for daily production.
• Evaluate operating parameters and adjust as needed.
• Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration equipment.
• Experience in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Read electrical diagrams; troubleshoot electrical problems.
• Document plant operations in logs and notes.
• Monitor and maintain refrigeration systems.
• Perform periodic tests of Ammonia Detection Alarm System.
• Read and interpret technical literature, drawings, and diagrams.
• Request materials and supplies; receive and store.
• Monitor water chemistry of evaporative condenser units.
• Coordinate and assist outside contractors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
