Job summary

Smith + Howard is seeking an Indirect Tax Compliance Manager to lead multi-state and local indirect tax engagements for clients across North America.

You’ll collaborate with a SALT professional network to ensure accurate filings across complex jurisdictions, while overseeing end-to-end engagement delivery, including preparation, review, workflow coordination, and quality control to meet client and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related fields.
• CPA or CMI license preferred.
• Five to ten years of sales tax compliance experience.
• Experience managing staff and client relationships in a professional services setting
• Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems independently or collaboratively
• Excellent communication and time management skills across multiple projects

Responsibilities

• Uphold firm and AICPA and IPT ethical standards while maintaining strict client confidentiality.
• Deliver high-quality state and local use compliance services with strong client focus and attention to detail.
• Lead planning, execution, and completion of compliance engagements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and jurisdictional compliance.
• Supervise and guide associates and seniors to ensure consistent, high-quality client service throughout engagements.
• Review and finalize state and local tax filings to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Manage engagement workflows, deadlines, and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
• Respond to tax notices and assist with audits and issue resolution as needed.
• Identify and support process improvements and use of technology to enhance efficiency.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships to support ongoing compliance needs.
