Job summary

University of Pennsylvania invites applications for an open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) position in Indigenous Studies, beginning in the 2027/28 academic year. The department seeks candidates exploring coloniality, indigeneity, and global deep time, with interests in sovereignty, environment justice, law, health, media, and/or science & technology studies.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and contribute to Penn’s NAIS

Qualifications

• PhD in Anthropology or a related discipline at the time of beginning the appointment.
• Active research and publication record advancing the field.
• Teaching load of four courses per year.
• Research and teaching should contribute to Penn’s NAIS Initiative.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses and graduate classes.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Develop research that crosses sub-disciplinary lines.
• Contribute to Penn’s Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) Initiative.
