Job summary

Bard College is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor to support Indigenous students through scholarships and programs under the Center for Indigenous Studies. The role reports to the Director of Educational Opportunity Programs and collaborates with the Center for Indigenous Studies staff.

The advisor will provide holistic guidance, help students set goals, monitor progress, and navigate scholarships and policies, while maintaining confidential records and coordinating with multiple campus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students in post-secondary contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic advising (academic, personal and social) to Indigenous Scholars.
  • Assist with option exploration, goal setting and action planning.
  • Monitor academic progress and support transitions to work or graduate school.
  • Counsel on scholarships and financial aid and explain policies.
  • Support students with personal and campus transition needs.
  • Explain registration prerequisites and ensure timely course adjustments.
  • Provide culturally grounded feedback and communicate respectfully.
  • Plan and implement Indigenous programming in collaboration with Financial Aid.
