Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (AZ IVP FPCC).
  • Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility or related field (preferred).
  • ACVREP certification (preferred).
  • Two years of public school experience (preferred).
  • Five years of orientation and mobility work experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Develops plans and instructs students with visual impairments in travel independence per IEP.
  • Teaches safe techniques in familiar and unfamiliar environments.
  • Trains in cane and sighted-guide skills to maximize independence.
  • Conducts assessments and writes written assessments of mobility skills.
  • Attends IEP meetings and contributes to accommodation planning.
  • Collaborates with parents and teachers to reinforce mobility skills.
  • Prepares equipment and materials for mobility training.
  • Provides in-service training to education personnel and families.
  • Transports students to community locations for real-world instruction.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
