Job summary

UVA Health’s Orthopedic Spine Surgery team seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to manage an independent patient panel while partnering one-to-one with a spine surgeon. This role offers exposure to routine and complex spine pathology within a supportive academic health system.

You will evaluate neck and back pain, order tests, determine referrals, and guide patients through treatment decisions, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of attending spine surgeons, APPs, and nurse

Qualifications

• Graduate degree from an accredited graduate program in nursing or PA.
• Licensed Advanced Practice Provider in Virginia with BLS; ACLS/NRP as required.
• Experience in spine or surgical specialty preferred; new grads considered.
• Ability to manage an independent patient panel and work with a spine surgeon.

Responsibilities

• Maintain your own patient panel and clinic schedule for spine patients.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of neck and back pain.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests as indicated.
• Differentiate urgent spine conditions from non-spine issues.
• Collaborate with spine surgeons and care team.
• Support operating room scheduling for the surgeon.
• Provide patient guidance through treatment decisions.
