Job summary

Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT is seeking a Phlebotomist for the Physician Blood Draw Department. The role involves venipuncture, specimen labeling, processing orders, and patient registration. Must be able to work independently and cover other Physician Blood Draw locations as needed.

Full-time, Day shift, 40 hours per week. Requires a HS diploma or equivalent and phlebotomy training; national certification preferred; 1 year of phlebotomy experience; strong communication and information

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of phlebotomy program.
• National Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a blood draw station, ambulatory care or acute care setting.
• Knowledge in the use of information system.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to take initiative and work alone.

Responsibilities

• Properly identifies patient per policy and performs venipuncture using standard/butterfly methods
• Labels all specimens following laboratory policy
• Receives/cancels/orders and processes laboratory/microbiology specimens
• Patient registration
• Flexibility to cover other sites when needed
