Job summary

Project Genesis Inc. in East Lyme, CT is seeking Independent Living Skills Trainers (ILSTs) to help individuals with acquired brain injuries live more independently. You’ll work one-on-one to build daily living skills, problem-solving, communication, and self-advocacy.

Eligibility: a high school diploma with 2+ years of brain injury experience or a BA with 1+ year in a related area. Flexible schedules (1st or 2nd shift), reliable transportation, valid license, and ABI/Person-Centered

Qualifications

• High school diploma with at least two years of verifiable brain injury experience or a bachelor's degree with at least one year of related brain injury experience
• Reliability: valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• ABI and Person-Centered certifications (or ability to obtain them)

Responsibilities

• Teach daily living skills such as cooking, budgeting, shopping, job readiness, and using public transportation
• Coach clients in problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and emotional regulation
• Monitor progress and document client achievements
• Support clients in health, safety, and personal goal attainment
• Connect clients with community resources that promote independence and success
• Encourage confidence, self-advocacy, and personal growth

What You'll Do

As an Independent Living Skills Trainer, you'll work one-on-one with individuals recovering from acquired brain injuries, helping them achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Teaching daily living skills such as cooking, budgeting, shopping, job readiness, and using public transportation
• Coaching clients in problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and emotional regulation
• Monitoring progress and documenting client achievements
• Supporting clients in meeting health, safety, and personal goals
• Connecting individuals with community resources that promote independence and success
• Encouraging confidence, self-advocacy, and personal growth every step of the way

Every client has unique goals, and you'll play an important role in helping them reach their full potential.

Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must haveone of the following:

• A high school diploma (or equivalent)plus at least two (2) years of verifiable experience working with individuals with brain injuries,or
• A bachelor's degreeplus at least one (1) year of verifiable brain injury-related experience

Applicants must also have:

• Reliable transportation
• A valid driver's license
• At least three (3) years of a safe driving record
• Proof of automobile insurance
• Flexibility to travel to client locations
• Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and Person-Centered certifications (or the ability to obtain them, if applicable)
