Job summary

Bethesda is seeking an ILS Instructor to provide one-on-one instruction and training to encourage independence and successful community integration. You will advocate for individuals, build strong relationships, and support employment, daily living, and safety skills across a wide range of essential tasks.

The role emphasizes hands-on supervision, collaboration with families and support networks, and commitment to empowering individuals to achieve goals and participate fully in their communities.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months direct supervision with individuals who have developmental disabilities.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general regulations.
• Ability to write legible and accurate notes on individual goals and objectives.
• Ability to present information clearly to the consumer, circle of support, and public.
• Ability to speak English and additional languages as needed by the individual.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment during services and emergencies.
• Must have a cell phone for communication with management and payroll duties.

Responsibilities

• Employment Preparation: supervise skills for employment, resume, interview prep, and time management.
• Communication Skills: support access to communication devices and related training.
• Mobility Training: help access to public transportation and related tasks.
• Education Training: assist with class enrollment, financial aid, and attendance.
• Money Management: budgeting, making change, price comparisons.
• Self Help Skills: supervise basic hygiene and dressing for weather and environment.
• Environmental Awareness and Public Adaptation: safe access to public settings.
• Personal and Public Safety Skills: stranger danger and street safety training.
• Emergency Preparedness: fire/earthquake safety and 911 awareness.
• Community Resources Awareness: facilitate access to public/community resources.
• Health and Fitness: supervision of diet/exercise and medical appointment support.
• Health and Nutrition Skills: guidance on diet and nutrition needs.
• Home Maintenance: keep living environment safe and clean; assist with laundry.
• Self-Advocacy Skills: rights awareness and empowerment.
• Living Options: help with housing choices and living arrangements.
• Benefit Planning: Medi-Cal/SSI processes and appointment management.
• Shopping skills: grocery shopping guidance and budgeting.
