The Thrasher Group is seeking a skilled Material Testing Project Representative as a 1099 independent contractor to support construction projects in Mason County, West Virginia. You will perform field testing on concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and soil and communicate results through written reports.

Independent contractor status means you handle taxes, insurance, and equipment. You must provide licensure or insurance as required by contract and be willing to travel to project sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Material testing experience preferred.
• OSHA 10, First Aid and CPR certifications desirable.
• ACI or WVDOH testing certifications valuable.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Material Testing Project Representative to support our construction projects in Mason County, West Virginia as an independent contractor (1099). This is a field-focused role that is central to the quality and success of our work, and a great fit for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and wants the flexibility of contract-based work.

ENGAGEMENT TYPE

This is a 1099 independent contractor position, not an employee role. As an independent contractor, you will:

• Operate as your own business entity, responsible for your own tax filings, insurance, and equipment
• Be engaged on a per-project or per-assignment basis, with compensation set out in your contractor agreement
• Provide your own means of transportation between project sites unless otherwise negotiated
• Not be eligible for Thrasher's employee benefits programs (health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, etc.), consistent with independent contractor status

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform sampling and field testing on construction materials including concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and soil
• Interpret civil construction plans and specifications
• Adapt to varying project locations on a daily basis
• Communicate findings effectively through clear, accurate written reports
• Maintain current certification courses to continuously build skills and technical knowledge
• Accommodate periodic out-of-town project stays as needed

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Experience: Material testing experience highly desirable Safety certifications: OSHA 10, First Aid, and CPR certifications highly desirable technical certifications: ACI or WVDOH testing certifications highly valuable Business requirements: Ability to provide proof of independent contractor status (e.g., business license, general liability insurance) as required by contract

COMPENSATION & CONTRACT TERMS

Compensation is paid per the terms of your independent contractor agreement (e.g., per project, per day, or per assignment) and is reported annually via Form 1099-NEC. Contractors are responsible for their own income tax withholding, including self-employment tax, and for maintaining any required licenses or insurance.

Pre-engagement drug screening and background checks required. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
