Job summary

Valmet in Houston seeks an Incoming Quality Inspector & Calibration Coordinator to inspect incoming materials, calibrate instruments, and ensure compliance with ISO 9001. You will read drawings, coordinate calibration schedules, and collaborate with Purchasing, Engineering, and Manufacturing to resolve quality issues.

The role requires 3–5+ years in manufacturing QA, experience with PCBAs and electrical assemblies, and proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience inspecting machined parts, fabricated components, electronics, PCBAs, or electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems for quality, inventory, or production transactions.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, pin gauges, and multimeters.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and objective acceptance/rejection decisions.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming inspections of materials, components, and assemblies to ensure conformance.
  • Verify materials meet engineering drawings, specs, PO requirements, and quality standards.
  • Read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, and manufacturing specs.
  • Utilize calipers, micrometers, thread/pin gauges, multimeters to verify conformity.
  • Document inspection results and maintain quality records in ERP/QMS.
  • Initiate NCRs, assist containment, and support corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers on quality issues.
  • Maintain calibration program and monitor equipment due dates.
  • Arrange shipment and tracking of items to external calibrators.
  • Keep calibration records and traceability across systems.
  • Support audits related to incoming inspection, calibration, and QMS.
  • Track metrics and participate in continuous improvement.

Incoming Quality Inspector & Calibration Coordinator

The Incoming Quality Inspector & Calibration Coordinator is responsible for inspecting incoming materials and components, including PCBAs, machined parts, fabricated components, electrical assemblies, and instrumentation-related products, while managing the site's calibration program to ensure compliance, measurement integrity, and product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform incoming inspections of purchased materials, components, and assemblies, including PCBAs, machined parts, fabricated components, electrical assemblies, and instrumentation-related products.
  • Verify materials and products meet engineering drawings, specifications, purchase order requirements, and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, bills of material (BOMs), and manufacturing specifications.
  • Utilize measuring and test equipment such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, pin gauges, multimeters, and other inspection instruments to verify product conformity.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records within the ERP and quality management systems.
  • Initiate and process non-conformance reports (NCRs), assist with containment activities, and support corrective action investigations.
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve incoming material quality.
  • Maintain the site calibration program to ensure all inspection, measurement, and test equipment remains compliant and available for use.
  • Coordinate calibration schedules and monitor due dates to prevent overdue equipment and measurement system interruptions.
  • Arrange shipment and tracking of equipment sent to approved external calibration service providers.
  • Maintain calibration records, certificates, equipment databases, and traceability documentation in accordance with company and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Support internal and external quality audits related to incoming inspection, calibration, and quality system compliance.
  • Track inspection and calibration performance metrics and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Expectations
  • 3-5+ years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience inspecting machined parts, fabricated components, electronics, PCBAs, or electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems for quality, inventory, or production transactions.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, pin gauges, and multimeters.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to make objective acceptance and rejection decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Suppliers.
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience managing or supporting calibration programs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, process analyzers, gas chromatographs, or automation products is a plus.
  • Associates or technical degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
