Job summary

Valmet is seeking a Roll Maintenance Mechanic in South Carolina to assemble and disassemble gearboxes, install and align subassemblies, and operate boring bars, drill presses, mills and honing machines.

You will read drawings, use micrometers and gauges, and work with overhead cranes and forklifts in a team-oriented, 3rd shift environment.

Qualifications

• High school education with manufacturing experience.
• Minimum three to five years in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with papermaking machinery is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

Roll Maintenance Mechanic

If you are a highly energetic, highly innovative and mechanically inclined individual we have a great career opportunity for you! As a Roll Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for assembling and disassembling of gearboxes, installing, aligning, adjusting and fitting subassemblies and required to setup and operate boring bar, drill press, milling and honing machine.

Experience working with large, heavy manufacturing equipment with the ability to run overhead crane and forklifts safely and efficiently. This is a 3rd shift position and reports to the department supervisor while working in a team orientated setting.

Knowledge of and ability to apply inspection techniques (e.g., formalized inspection standards, inspection instructions, best practices) and use inspection tools efficiently. The ability to read and use micrometers, functional and cylindrical gauges, indicator setups and scales. Ability to use torque wrenches to adjust parts and equipment, or install parts and equipment, following established specifications and procedures.

A good understanding of how quality impacts the success of the organization including costs to customers, costs of in plant losses on a company's reputation. This includes taking the necessary steps to ensure quality on a consistent basis and striving for improvement. The ability to accomplish a task with concern for all the areas involved, including the ability to notice inconsistencies in parts, equipment, or production processes to prevent faulty products leaving the facility.

Must be able to write effectively, to read and understand work documents and to communicate information clearly to coworkers and supervisor. General knowledge of machines and equipment functionality, and how tools could be used on such equipment/machines. This includes the ability to learn new systems quickly, understanding how parts relate, and how they impact system functionality.

Requirements

A high school education with previous manufacturing experience; ideally a minimum of three to five years' experience. Knowledge of papermaking machinery a plus, but not required. Willing to work with and train candidates with a high level of initiative and personal motivation.
