Job summary

Stanly County Department of Social Services seeks an Income Maintenance Caseworker II to determine eligibility for Medicaid, Work First, and Food & Nutrition benefits. You will interview clients, collect information, and complete initial applications to establish need and eligibility.

You will verify data, maintain a caseload, document decisions, and refer clients to relevant services while upholding confidentiality and communicating clearly with clients and public officials.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Work against appointment options may be considered with corresponding educational backgrounds, including associate degree in related fields or related public contact experience.

Job description

Within this position, employees are responsible for determining/re-determining applicant/client eligibility at Stanly County Department of Social Services for programs such as Medicaid, Work First Family Assistance, Food and Nutrition Services, etc. This employee will be expected to perform tasks such as interviewing clients to obtain required information, completing initial applications, verifying the information obtained, determining eligibility, or completing scheduled program reviews. This employee must explain program(s) requirements and options and advise or refer clients to other programs.

  • Interviews clients and/or collateral contacts to gather information, secure medical, work history, and other income information, and determine need and eligibility for human services.
  • Responsible for verifying information and investigating discrepancies within the information.
  • Assists clients in retaining public assistance benefits by updating information in client records and the state eligibility system.
  • Follows policies and procedures related to eligibility determination and redetermination while maintaining an ongoing caseload.
  • Responsible for documenting eligibility decisions, and retaining copies of client records, including financial, psychological, medical, vocational, and court records, in order to provide accountability for the expenditure of state and federal funding
  • Provides clients with information about the availability of services and refers them to appropriate agencies or community partners.

Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills, ability to read, analyze and interpret rules, regulations and procedures.

Ability to communicate with clients, the public at large and public officials to obtain data and explain regulations, rules and procedures.

Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.

Ability to organize and manage multiple complex program activities.

Ability to pay close and accurate attention to minutiae details.

Ability to work under stress.

Proficient computer and data entry skills are required.

Ability to use good judgment and discretion as it relates to interpreting policies and procedures.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR INCOME MAINTENANCE CASEWORKER II

One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Anyone who meets the following may apply as a "work against appointment" and will be considered: Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering, and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Stanly County DSS Work Against Information:

IMC I - $38,952

IMC II - $42,619 - after one-year experience as an IMC I

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid NC driver’s license and reliable transportation. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use. A criminal records check and a driver’s license check will be performed.
