Job summary

City of Miami Beach is seeking a recreation assistant to provide one-on-one support to children with moderate to severe special needs within various recreational programs. The role involves organizing, modifying and leading activities under supervision of the Park Manager at assigned sites.

Responsibilities include supervising participants, evaluating abilities, implementing behavior plans, assisting adaptation, and ensuring safety.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Recreation, or related field.
  • Two years' experience working directly with children and/or adults with special needs.
  • Shift work may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications must obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • DCF 40-hour Childcare Facility Training started within first 90 days and completed within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises participants in sports, games and activities.
  • Evaluates skill level and participation capacity.
  • Implements behavior plans and maintains documentation.
  • Assists participants to adapt to activities and fosters social interaction.
  • Administers basic first aid when needed.
  • Enforces safety rules and city policies.
  • Maintains attendance and activity records.
  • Provides excellent customer service to the public and callers.
